Wainhouse Research Validates IPeak Networks' IPQ Packet Protection Technology
IPeak Networks, a developer of network performance and quality management solutions, reportedly revealed that a third party evaluation was conducted on company’s IPQ technology and the results indicated that IPQ consistently and automatically reduced packet-loss considerably and by more than 90 percent in some cases.
Wainhouse Research, an independent market research and analyst firm that specializes in conferencing, collaboration, and unified communications, conducted this third party assessment of IPQ in Q4 2009.
According to IPeak Networks, its IPQ is a plug-and-play packet protection technology that is optimized for video conferencing. It is compatible with any standards-compliant video conferencing system. Moreover, it delivers the benefits of emerging visual communications tools to the far edge of the enterprise LAN and beyond.
The report released by Wainhouse (News - Alert) Research said that IPeak Networks' IPQ consistently and automatically reduces Internet protocol network packet loss, thereby allowing high quality video conferences over lossy networks.
"As the use of video conferencing increases within organizations of all sizes, there is an increasing urgency to address the negative effects of packet loss," Ira Wainhouse, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse Research, said in a press release. "IPeak Networks' IPQ technology met, and in many ways exceeded, our initial expectations for this type of packet-loss protection solution. With IPQ's relatively low cost and plug-and-play design, we believe this solution would be valuable to virtually any organization seeking to conduct high quality video conferencing sessions over loss-prone IP networks. This is especially true for organizations with multi-vendor video conferencing deployments."
Some of the specific areas of focus considered by Wainhouse Research during the evaluation included - solution packaging/form factor, ease of installation/configuration, ease of use/user interface, compatibility with many videoconferencing solutions, system performance with various degrees of packet loss, and overall user experience.
During the evaluation, IPeak had provided Wainhouse Research with two IPQ network appliances, which were installed alongside a number of video endpoints and infrastructure devices, within the research firm’s Atlanta test lab. In addition, two rounds of test calls were conducted - one with IPQ disabled and one with IPQ enabled - between the installed systems while inserting increasing levels of packet loss.
The IPQ consistently reduced the packet loss received by each video system, in some cases by over 90 percent, said Wainhouse Research. Based on these findings, the research firm believes that this technology is ideal for organizations conducting IP videoconferencing sessions over lossy networks, especially those organizations with multi-vendor deployments.
"The report not only validates our innovative packet protection technology, but underscores our commitment to providing effective, low-cost solutions to the video conference market," Martin Horne, CEO of IPeak Networks, said in the release.
