Aruba Networks Delivers Secure Wireless to Caltech Students

Aruba Networks (News - Alert), Inc., a company engaged in development of wireless LANs and secure unified mobility solutions, has announced that its adaptive wireless LANs have been installed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) throughout its Pasadena campus. Across the 124-acre campus, which is located 10 miles northeast of the Los Angeles Civic Center, about 700 Aruba access points have been deployed to provide blanket coverage.

John Dundas III, director of IMSS Voice & Data Networks, Caltech, said that the institute has implemented a campus-wide wireless LAN and has been impressed with the ease of provisioning and deploying the access points. Dundas added that Caltech wanted to provide a campus-wide mobile computing solution that would support voice, video, and other applications in the future, and the new network offers the performance, differentiation of service, and security needed by the institute, while the centralized network management architecture minimizes the work required to maintain and modify the system to accommodate the very dynamic environment of Caltech.

The unified mobility solutions by Aruba have been specifically designed to securely deliver networks to users by integrating adaptive wireless LANs, identity-based security, Wi-Fi-to-cellular solutions, and multi-vendor network management into an integrated, high-performance system. The network by Aruba automatically adapts itself to accommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks, which further simplifies wireless LAN set-up and operation.

Robert Fenstermacher, Aruba higher education marketing, said that wireless LANs are an indispensable tool on today's campuses, and the expectations from users and IT management alike are very high. Robert noted that the users want uninterrupted network access and high-speed connections, while IT management wants pervasive security, comprehensive management tools that are simple to use, and the reuse of as much existing infrastructure as possible.

Robert added that Aruba satisfies these requirements with a unified mobility platform that scales to meet virtually any sized application, is software upgradable to meet future needs, and is environmentally friendly in terms of power consumption, the reuse of existing infrastructure and support for telecommuters who want to work off campus.

Aruba is a company engaged in delivering secure networks to users, wherever they work or roam. The solutions provided by Aruba include Wi-Fi networks, identity-based security, remote access and cellular services, and centralized multi-vendor network management.
