Unified Communications Featured Article

Dimension Data Intros Unified Communications Development Model

Dimension Data has introduced a Unified Communications (News - Alert) Development Model (UCDM) in order to help organizations assess their competence and capabilities in unified communications to facilitate UC implementation.

The UCDM was developed by communication experts from the company to cater to the demand from clients for measurement of operational and strategic competency and will help companies decide on investments in the UC area.

“As our previous unified communications research indicates, UC is a high priority on boardroom agendas for 2008 and beyond,” said Mitchell Hershkowitz, national practice manager for converged communications at Dimension Data.

“Global organizations see the value of deploying unified communications and are turning to solutions providers like Dimension Data for guidance. Our customers want a strategic roadmap that aligns technology with their business requirements in order to define which solutions and projects to prioritize for maximum return on investment. "

“Advanced unified communications applications such as instant messaging, presence, unified messaging and mobility play a key role in enhancing productivity and efficiency. These applications, though, require careful planning for integration into the existing corporate communications platform and applications environment, especially around security and compliance requirements,” also said Hershkowitz.

Dimension Data's UCDM enables organizations to get an idea of their present status, practices and strategic execution. It helps them plan for their business and employee requirements relevant for the present and future.

To develop the UCDM, Dimension Data has designed four maturity levels to study competence. They are Basic, Converged, Unified or Optimized. The result is given in “as-is” and “to-be” format to help understand the present state of business communications. This enables planning for the future like technology purchases, integration of existing technologies and focus on projects on corporate culture or end-user training.
