Beijing TV to roll out high definition program by end-Sept.
BEIJING, Sep 04, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
Beijing TV Station (BTV) will take
the lead in China to broadcast high definition (HD) programs starting
from September 28.
BTV aims at broadcasting high definition programs in three
channels over the upcoming three years, and gradually finishing the
reform of HD interactive cable TV networks as well as promoting HD
interactive set-top boxes at the same time.
The TV station expected to develop 300,000 subscribers in key
urban demonstrative sub-districts, and boost the user number to 2.6
million in three years.
Currently, 240,000 subscribers are capable of receiving HD
digital TV signals in the city.
Li Hong, vice director of Beijing Municipal Commission of
Industry and Information Technology, expects a five-billion yuan
market size in the front-end equipment market in the forthcoming
three years, the promotion of HD interactive set-top boxes will
generate market size of about 3.1 billion yuan, and the popularity of
HD TVs to bring out market size of some 14.5 billion yuan.
According to Zhang Yanyou, vice director of Beijing Municipal
Commission of Development and Reform, the HD TV will boost the
development of flat-panel industry. Concentrating on BOE Technology
Group Co., Ltd.'s production line of eighth generation LCD panels,
Beijing will attract and gather high-end industrial resources from
the city and all of the country here to establish digital TV
industrial parks, which upon completion, may stimulate investments of
nearly 50 billion yuan from up- and down-stream.
