xVM VirtualBox 2.0 introduced by Sun Microsystems

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Technology company Sun Microsystems Inc (Nasdaq:JAVA) announced on
Thursday (4 September) a new version of Sun xVM VirtualBox, its free
and open source desktop virtualisation software, as well as Sun xVM
VirtualBox Software Enterprise Subscription, a new offering for 24/7
premium support for enterprise users.

xVM VirtualBox software reportedly enables users to create 'virtual
machines' into which they can install their operating system of choice,
allowing developers to easily build, test and run cross-platform,
multi-tier applications on a single laptop or desktop computer.

According to the company, users of the new release will benefit from
new support for 64-bit versions of operating systems, including Windows
Vista and RedHat Enterprise Linux, in addition to all other major host
operating systems. In addition, the software offers a new user
interface for the Mac platform, improved networking for the Mac OS X
and Solaris OS, as well as improved performance, especially on AMD
chips.

Customers who purchase an enterprise subscription will also receive a
Right-to-Use License, enabling them to deploy the xVM VirtualBox
platform using their own software deployment tools, the company said.

To download the software and sign up for an enterprise support
subscription, users need to visit
http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/get.jsp. Subscriptions
start at USD30 per user per year, including support, and discounts are
available based on volume.
